Getting the Most Out of Your Advertising, Pt 3

So far, we've explained the benefits of using splash pages, branding, lead capture pages, not promoting too many business and the possibility of starting and promoting your own business.

Another question that a lot of Net Marketers have is about using rotators in traffic exchanges AND how important are unique hits.

I mention these both in the same sentence because I feel they go hand in hand.

First let's describe unique hits.

If a traffic exchange delivers a high number of unique hits, that means that the same people are not seeing your site over and over again.

There are a lot of different ideas about whether this is good or bad. Some people want unique hits because they feel if the person didn't join the first time they saw their website, they won't join.

Others know that people might have to see your site several times before they finally take action. So, it's up to you about how you handle this and which side of the argument you're on.

But there are some ways to refine this. If you know an exchange is delivering 20% unique hits, you can defeat this by using a rotator. By using a rotator you can show those people several of your opportunities in a short period of time.

But, if an exchange has a high percentage of unique views, you may not want to use a rotator. You may want to put your site into rotation multiple times (some exchanges allow you to put the same URL in several times) and not use a rotator. This is because if you use a rotator, some members may not see some of your sites.

Along with this, you should be using an ad tracker for any advertising you do on the Internet, whether traffic exchanges, classified ads, safelists, signature files, newsletters, or anywhere you advertise.

An ad tracker in a traffic exchange will tell you if the amount of hits you are receiving match up with the amount of hits the exchange says you are receiving.

There is almost always a small difference in your report and their report. Don't worry about this. But if there is a large difference, you might want to do a little more investigation.

Another benefit of using a rotator is that you can rotate different pages advertising the same business. This not only gives surfers a different look at your business, but allows you to see which pages get the most signups. Once you know this, you can make your campaign much more successful.

Another method of advertising you will see in traffic exchanges is banner advertising. Most of the time while you are surfing on an exchange, in addition to the pages you are surfing, you will see banners. Are they successful?

Mildly. Most banners rarely get clicked on. If you are very creative and have a great banner, it will draw more clicks.

But the main benefit of using a banner is branding. Even if nobody clicks your banner, you can keep getting your name or business out there. Then, when people do come across you website, they will remember having seen it before. This is very important to 'getting your name out there'.

Along with banners are text ads. Many exchanges offer these. Typically, they are more effective than banners by a small margin. Again, the more creative the text ad, the better the click-thru ratio will be.
